ABOUT PHYSIOTHERAPY

Physiotherapy is an allied health profession, which emphasizes the use of physical agents in

the management of diseases, prevention & rehabilitation of disabling conditions.

Physiotherapy deals with problems particularly those associated with Neuromuscular,

Musculo-skeletal and Cardio-vascular & Respiratory systems. The therapeutic methods are

based essentially on manual therapy, electro therapy and use of other physical agents.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY

Occupational Therapy aims to provide therapeutic and functional management to the

disabling medical conditions (Physical and mental) so as to enable them to perform

maximum possible function independently viz. daily living activities, play, performance at

the work place through sensory integration therapy, work simulators, EMG-Biofeedback,

therapeutic activities, etc. In occupational therapy, modified, adaptive/assistive & supportive

devices are also developed and used to make the life more independent, productive and

dignified.

PROSTHETICS & ORTHOTICS

Prosthesis is an artificial replacement or substitute for a lost part of a limb amputates due to

congenital or acquired causes. The profession got its recognition more in early seventies in

post war era. This was due to the sudden increase in number of war victims amputees

requiring fitments of artificial limbs (Prosthesis).

AUDIOLOGY AND SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY

Bachelor in Audiology and Speech Language Pathology (B.ASLP) is a 4 years program that

aims to equip the students with knowledge and skills to function as Audiologist and Speech

Language Pathologist. The program promotes understanding of communication, Speech,

Language, & Hearing in both normal and Persons with communication disorders and

/disabilities. An Audiologist and Speech language pathologist (ASLP) assess, diagnose and

provide intervention (non-medically) to an array of speech, language, hearing and swallowing

disorders. An ASLP offers clinical services to clients of all ages (from newborn to geriatric

population). The clinical population includes person with hearing loss, balance disorders,

tinnitus, voice disorder, stuttering, speech sound disorder, receptive and expressive language

disorder, language disorder associated with intellectual disability, autism, cerebral palsy,

learning disability, and multiple disabilities, adults with language loss (Aphasia) and

neurogenic speech disorder (dysarthria) and swallowing disorders (dysphagia).
